What are we?  

WisdomSpace is a resource center and networking hub for wisdom community leaders. Wisdom communities are large groups of folks who pay close attention to how they're getting along with each other as they work toward creating a better life both today and for the seventh generation.

A leader is anyone who's willing to help their communities become better wisdom communities.

A wisdom community could have a specific social interest like species extinction or prison reform, or it could be strategically stewarding a geographic place such as a city or an island.

 

WisdomSpace is a free non-commercial community resource center to inspire, inform, & invite wisdom community leaders to discover best practice stories, processes, & tools to support their work.

 

WisdomSpace is also a community networking hub of an emerging wisdom community network.

 

Wisdom Space is different from most existing networks in that we place a strong emphasis on the quality of communication and relationships between network members. More than just a service to connect strangers or provide useful information, Wisdom Space helps to build real community between real people.

 

Wisdom Space is also different from most online networks in that our online communities are linked to real-world communities. We encourage regular face-to-face community gatherings that are also guided by our wisdom community philosophy.

 

WisdomSpace is currently in the beta trial phase, catalyzing networks & events based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

 

 

What do we do?

WisdomSpace is a pioneering collaborative networking website literally co-created by the people in its network communities.

 

WisdomSpace:

·       helps leaders find each other & share their wisdom in news, events, forums, directories, the library, & the wisdom community map

·       builds collective wisdom about the wisdom community field in our library

·       hosts collaboration space for inter-community wisdom projects in our groups and action center

·       mentors wisdom community leaders in networking technology services

 

WisdomSpace doesn't directly do anything. People do. WisdomSpace just provides the tools to help people who are already doing wise things in their communities to be able to do them easier and better.

 

WisdomSpace is a "connector," not a "collector." We want to help weave connections among wisdom communities wherever they are. Nobody has to change what they're already doing.

 

How do we do it?

WisdomSpace is an invitational semi-private network that grows organically as one member invites a friend or colleague to join. The members add their own wisdom so the community "memory" grows through its members' contributions to the website.

 

Our networking technology is still in the beta phase. We're actively working on adding more tools for groups, blogs, networking mapping, and more. If you're interested in joining our tech design team, please contact hosts@wisdomspace.net.

 

We build a community network culture together that is represented by our network mascot L.A.R.S. the black bear. L.A.R.S is a simple acronym for Listen, Appreciate, Respect, and Share. We have adopted these basic principles (which we all learned in kindergarten) to help build a culture of safety, trust, and mutual respect for all network members.

Why are we here?

WisdomSpace's strategic mission is to inspire, inform, & invite folks in the American wisdom community movement. Like many others, we believe that there is an urgent need for a collective quantum leap towards wiser and more sustainable ways to live on the planet. One of the most crucial arenas where this shift needs to happen is in our communities.

 

WisdomSpace is an experiment in practicing non-violence in American communities. Our deep desire is to help people create better community lives for themselves and for their great-great-great grandkids.

If we can't do it here and now, our great-great-great grandkids don't have much chance of doing it either. This is a place to sit back, look around us today, imagine generations ahead, and dig in to create the kind of world we want to live in and leave behind. What an adventure!

 

Who are we?

WisdomSpace is a learning & networking system created by a collaborative action research project of Wisdom Mountain and the California Institute of Integral Studies, non-profit community education organizations in the western US. The project applies leading-edge theories and practices in integral community development to "co-create" networks that support community health and harmony. Our project team members can be found in our circle directory.

 

Our "collaborative community" Internet technology is a custom version of a revolutionary open source content management platform called Drupal, custom-crafted by our friends at CivicActions & HoloCosmos.
